Author: Władysław Semkowicz
Year: 1932

This is a reproduction print of the historical map “Polska dzielnicowa ok. r. 1250” (Fragmented Poland Around 1250), created by Władysław Semkowicz and published in 1932 by Książnica-Atlas in Lviv and Warsaw, in cooperation with the Eugeniusz Romer Cartographic Institute.

The map depicts Poland around 1250 during the period of feudal fragmentation, when the former unified Piast monarchy was divided into several duchies ruled by different branches of the Piast dynasty. This period followed the division of Poland established by Bolesław III Wrymouth in 1138, shaping the country's political landscape throughout the 12th and 13th centuries.

Different colors distinguish the medieval Polish duchies and their territorial boundaries, while detailed geographical labels and shaded relief illustrate the historical landscape of Central and Eastern Europe. Particularly valuable are three supplementary maps showing Kraków in the second half of the 13th century after its town charter, Poland in 1138 under Bolesław III Wrymouth, and Lesser Poland under the Piast dynasty.

The original map measured approximately 26 × 30 cm, on a sheet of 31 × 39 cm. It was published as a separate printing of plate No. 7 from the Szkolny atlas historyczny by Władysław Semkowicz and Czesław Nanke. Its detailed depiction of medieval political divisions makes it an excellent example of Polish historical cartography from the interwar period.
