Year: 1665
This is a reproduction print of the historical map “Nova & Accurata Dvcatvvm Slesvici Et Holsatiae Tabvla”, created by renowned Dutch cartographer Joan Blaeu and published in 1665 as part of his monumental Atlas Maior.
The hand-colored engraved map presents the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein, showing towns, political boundaries, rivers, coastlines and other geographical features. The North Sea and Baltic Sea frame the region, enhanced by decorative maritime imagery typical of 17th-century Dutch cartography.
One of the map’s most distinctive features is the series of 16 detailed town plans arranged along its sides. Elaborate cartouches, coats of arms, allegorical figures and other Baroque ornamentation transform the map into both a geographical document and an impressive decorative artwork.
Published during the Dutch Golden Age of cartography, the map formed part of Blaeu’s celebrated Atlas Maior, one of the most ambitious and lavishly produced atlases of the 17th century.
